LP - Limited Edition 180g audiophile pressing on Black Vinyl. Part of Waxtime's 'Collector's LP Series'. Contains two bonus tracks.
The music presented here was originally issued under the nameĀ Jazz Artists Guild, which gathered players that had participated in an alternative series of concerts at the Newport Jazz Festival 1960. It consists of the only existing recordings ofĀ Charles Mingus,Ā Roy EldridgeĀ andĀ Eric DolphyĀ playing together. Also present on the session are trombonistĀ Jimmy Knepper, pianistĀ Tommy Flanagan, and drummerĀ Jo Jones. WhileĀ MingusĀ andĀ EldridgeĀ only recorded together on a few other occasions, the bassist andĀ DolphyĀ had a longstanding partnership, which was sadly interrupted forever due to the saxophonist's unexpected death in 1964. Two quartet tracks from the same session on which bothĀ DolphyĀ andĀ KnepperĀ sat out have been added as a bonus
