The Bluebells - Sisters
The Bluebellsâ âSistersâ is a perfect snapshot of early 1980s âSound of Young Scotlandâ Glasgow indie pop with bittersweet spirit, sharp hooks, and heartfelt harmonies.
Signing to the then-nascent London Records and working with a procession of esteemed producers (including Elvis Costello who became a mentor and teacher to the band), The Bluebells enjoyed three UK hits in the 1980s (âCathâ, âYoung At Heartâ and âIâm Fallingâ) before touring widely throughout Europe and North America, developing their live sound and signing to Seymour Steinâs Sire Records in the US.
A decade later, in 1993, âYoung At Heartâ hit the UK No 1 spot following its use as a TV advert for Volkswagen.
Fast forward to this decade and The Bluebells have reformed with a flurry of shows across the past two years, including a triumphant return to Glasgow at Barrowlands for Celtic Connects, and they have just been announced for Glastonbury Festival 2025âs Acoustic Stage.
This newly remastered and expanded edition collects the bandâs entire London Records output - bonus tracks, non-album singles, extended versions and much more.
Produced in consultation with the band, these new editions of âSistersâ have used the best audio sources available, uncovering a swathe of previously unreleased material, including the bandâs three early radio sessions for BBC Radio One.
A DVD also brings together restored versions of all their key promo videos and BBC performances including Top Of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test.
