The Skids - Land Sea & Sky: Skids Singles 1978-1981/Boy Man & Soldier: Skids 1978-1981
With their breakthrough hit âInto The Valleyâ in 1979, Dunfermline, Scotlandâs premier export Skids quickly rose to become one of the most respected and popular bands to emerge from the UK punk and new wave era. Founding members Richard Jobson (vocals) and Stuart Adamson (guitars) were a dynamic combination up front (Adamson went on to even greater commercial success when he later founded Big Country) while the bandâs tight, taut sound was grounded by the William Simpson on bass and first Tom Kellichan and later Mike Baillie on drums.
âInto The Valleyâ had actually come on the heels of a trio of cult-appeal early singles â âCharlesâ, âSweet Suburbiaâ, and âThe Saints Are Comingâ, all considered classics today, while its success saw chart follow ups with the likes of âAnimationâ, âMasqueradeâ, âWorking For The Yankee Dollarâ, âCircus Gamesâ and âGoodbye Civilianâ. Always considered up there with the greatest among their peers â The Jam, Siouxsie And The Banshees, and The Stranglers, for example â both singles and albums showcased an intelligence and literate sensibility as well as musical innovation and awesome power. On stage they were simply dynamite.
Unusually, until now, Skids have never seen their glorious 1978-1981 run of immaculate singles brought together in a vinyl collection. The 13-track all-killer âLand, Sea & Skyâ: Skids Singles 1978-1981, presented on Satire Blue vinyl, finally rectifies that situation. It includes the singlesâ A-sides and comes with illustrated inner bag in a new design by Phillip Marshall and an original cover shot by Virginia Turbett.
The 5-disc âBoy, Man & Soldier: Skids 1978 - 1981â collection brings together the vast majority of the Skidsâ recorded output from the glory years 1978 â 1981. It includes the albums âScared To Danceâ, both the original mix of âDays In Europaâ and its 1980 remix version, âThe Absolute Gameâ and âJoyâ plus all of the bandâs non-album singles, in their edited single forms, along with B-sides and single and 12â edits.
Beautifully presented in 7âX7â Super Deluxe packaging, âBoy, Man and Soldierâ comes fully illustrated with original sleeve art from the era married to a new design by Phillip Marshall and original cover shot by Virginia Turbett.
